Beijing 2008 The Official Video Game
TRACK and field games have been a staple of the industry due to their simplicity.
Mash some buttons, win some events, and in the course of it all, attempt to set records.
They also make superb multiplayer games.
So how does Beijing 2008 The Official Video Game compare? Well, Gamer Herald has received a copy of the game from SEGA and is in the process of reviewing the title.
The game is available on PlayStations 3 (PS3), PC and Xbox 360 (X360) and is due for release on 3 July, about a month before the real Olympics take place.
What we can tell you is that it's a hell of a lot safer than travelling to Beijing and breathing in the smog; and with 38 events ranging fromo table tennis, to 100m sprint, to weightlifting and even shot put, there's a lot on offer for Olympic Games enthusiasts.
So far, this is the most comprehensive and promising Olympic video game title that has been developed, and one would expect that with a studio like SEGA behind it, the title would be fun to play.
The gameplay in Beijing 2008 The Official Video Game has been given a shot in the arm - no longer is it only button mashing. Some events require timing rather than lightning fast button firing. Others, as seen in mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games, also require button mashing at the beginning to give your athlete a great start, making the home stretch of a sprint a lot easier.
Online play is available although we are yet to try this. It looks promising, however, with up to seven people allowed to take part in a one gaming session, all vying for gold, silver and bronze.
Here's a list of what events are in Beijing 2008 The Official Video Game:
