Classic Game of the Week

Good Afternoon Gamers,
Very few games in gaming history leave such an impact on fans. For me the game that left the most impact would have to be WWF Smackdown for the original Playstation. Wrestling games before then were dismal to none. Since WWF Wrestlemania for the Nintendo there have been some hits and misses with wrestling video games.
WWF Smackdown was released on March 2nd 2000. It was THQ's first attempt at the WWF franchise and they hit it out of the park. Acclaim was in charge of the franchise before THQ and they released some of the crappiest wrestling games ever. WWF War Zone and WWF Attitude were the worst attempts for the new generation of consoles.
Smackdown was a step away from that, with its arcade-style gameplay it made for great times. Growing up I was a huge wrestling fan (I still am) but when this game out me and buddies when spend hours playing this game. We would have tournaments, this game at the time was big.
THQ had a hit on there hands and the company continued to build on the foundation that they had created. The series became such a hit it continues today with its latest release WWE Smackdown vs. Raw 2011. Its a yearly release and they continue to raise the bar.
