And it's go, go, go for Codemasters
CODEMASTERS has secured the Formula One license and is developing a new series of F1 games for consoles, handhelds and the PC.
The company announced the license grab today and will have exclusive rights to develop an official FIA Formula One World Championship game across all gaming platforms.
Sony Computer Entertainment Liverpool previously held the license, but its games, particularly the PS3 version, lacked the spit and polish of more accomplished F1 racers, such as Microprose's Grand Prix series.
Codemasters' acquisition of the F1 license may come as good news to racing fans who will be familiar withCodemasters' previous driving sims, including the Colin McRae series, and the Race Driver series (also known as V8 Supercars in Australia).
"Formula One is ambitious in expanding its reach with more circuits planned beyond recent additions in the Middle East and China. It is also ambitious in expanding its reach via technology," Codemasters CEO Rod Cousens said.
"The digital communities that computer and video gaming creates will play a key role in further growing the Formula One audience and connecting them globally."
