Gamer Herald - Is that French for 'Grumpy Xbox Fanboy'?
GAMER Herald does not usually promote flaming or fanboys, but when it comes to comparing the Playstation 3's PSN network to the Xbox Live service... It's war, and yes, fanboys are welcome!
The PS3 2.40 firmware update was belated, overhyped, beat up, and paid a truck load of attention by game fans around the world. But who has ever suggested it is better than Xbox Live?
You can't compare the pair; one is an apple, one is an orange.
The PSN is FREE - Xbox Live is paid for
That's the defining difference between the two services. You can't compare something free to something that costs.
PS3 users do not pay ongoing fees to access and enjoy PSN.
What does this mean? Probably not much to hardcore gamers who own every console on the market and are happy to pay for Xbox Live. But what about a pimply-faced 16-year-old Xbox 360 owner, who can't afford a PS3 or to pay for a Live subscription?
No online multiplayer.
His friend, another pimply faced 16-year-old, owns a PS3 and is also on a tight budget. He or she would be very interested in a free service such as PSN.
Who cares if it is a belated carbon copy of the Xbox service, Sony is delivering it free of charge.
PSN and XMB may not be as integrated or as dedicated as Live, but it's nice to know that when you purchase Sony's black box, you won't have to pay another cent to play online games.
In that respect, it is, in fact, Microsoft's Xbox 360 that is 'lagging' behind the times.
