EA announces new Skate game to use Wii Balance Board

Low res, low textured glory. But if the Wii Balance Board works, who cares?

GAMERS will be able to use their Wii Balance Boards to ride a skateboard and perform tricks in the forthcoming Skate It game currently under development by EA Games.

Skate It, announced today by EA Games, is the Wii and Nintendo DS' answer to the original Skate game, which received critical acclaim for taking skateboarding games into a more realistic and rewarding direction.

On the Nintendo DS you'll be able to use the stylus to perform the Flick It tricks that Skate players are used to.

And on the Wii, EA Games says you'll be able to use either the Wii remote or the Wii Balance Board to control the action.

Skate It! is penned in for a release later this year, but EA Games has not specified exactly when.

It should not be confused with Skate 2, the sequel to Skate that is being developed for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 consoles.

Shaun says:

This is the reason why you should be buying Wii Fit - the Wii Balance Board. Forget virtual pushups, the Balance Board has enormous potential in skateboarding, snowboarding, surfing and other board-related titles, and I just hope that EA Games can manage to make good, solid use of the board in Skate It.

Of course, I'm somewhat skeptical given the fact this will be one of the first attempts by a third party to develop for the Balance Board, but we can always hope, can't we?

gee that screener is hard on the eyes. the blue sky has a tinge of purple. my only question is: why? why would anyone want to use the wii balance board to play a skating game... i'd prefer the wii mote anyday.

i know kick flips might be fun, but surely the novelty would quickly wear off?
