Shock in your jocks as we unbox
HERE at Gamer Herald, we love receiving fancy-pants PR material. After recently posting details of the new Dualshock 3 controller for Playstation 3, an interesting package was awaiting me on my desk this morning.
The box said "X-Rated - Caution for pleasure at home only - Contents will vibrate at exciting moments".
Instantly, my long list of back orders at www.electriclingerie.com came flooding back. Quivering with excitement, I slowly lifted the lid, and revealed a product infinitely better than my pre-ordered 'shock jocks'.
The new Dualshock controller for Playstation 3, complete with vibration and motion sensing capabilities.
Packaging is much the same as the Sixaxis controller, square edges, black on grey with subtle blue fonts. Opening time has not been decreased; it still takes a rusty filleting knife and a violent outburst to force the controller from its plastic home.
But when you finally free the new Dualshock, it sits in your palm like a perfectly tailored glove. I've yet to plug-in and use the vibration function, but my first impressions of the controller are positive.
The first thing I noticed was the slightest increase in weight. The new Dualshock is 55 grams heavier than the Sixaxis-only model, and feels studier in the palm.
The action buttons, which now spruik a pressure sensitive design, feel the same, so too the trigger buttons and the analogue sticks.
I did enjoy this warning on the back of the box - "Do not use the vibration function if you have any ailment or injury to the bones, joints or muscles of your hands or arms."
Now I'm scared to plug it in.
The Dualshock 3 Wireless Controller for the Playstation 3 will set you back a hefty $99.95 and will be available in Oz from Thursday 24 April. Across the Tasman, New Zealand gamers must wait until 9 May and will pay $109.95.
