WHAT better way to combat the rising cost of fuel than with cheaper high-definition gaming consoles?
Microsoft has announced that Australian gamers will be the first in the world to receive wholesale price cuts across its range of Xbox 360 units.
The price of the Xbox 360 Arcade will drop by $50 and retail for $349. The Xbox 360 Pro bundle comes down $80 to $499. The masterful Elite version will drop to $649 (down from $729).
Interestingly the Xbox 360 Arcade version will now be cheaper than the Nintendo Wii, which sells for around $388. High-definition gaming cheaper than AV Wii? Sounds good to me!
The prices were effective on 2 July, though retailers will have to move current shelf stock before applying the new prices.
Microsoft said the price drop did not come in response to increased competition from Nintendo and Sony's Playstation 3, but instead from their long standing commitment to pass savings on to customers.
Here, here, Microsoft! How very noble of you! Why don't you also bundle a copy of Windows Vista Ultimate with every new Xbox 360 to hammer the deal home! Perhaps not...
