Yes, They Do Exist
November 23rd 2006 03:11
I hesitate to begin a new blog as I am not much of a writer. However, a few friends believe it would be interesting reading about my opinions on various games and the video game industry -- the opinion of the rarer female gamer.
Although they're not as rare now as they used to be, the looks of shock still appear on the faces of males when it's revealed that I play games. At times, they question whether I mean games like Solitaire or Mine Sweeper before accepting that I mean 'real' video games. At other times, they'll flatly deny the possibility.
So I'll begin with an introduction:
I believe the first electronic game I played was Tetris, on one of those 2-in-1 Tetris handhelds when I was 4 years old. Around the age of 5 or 6, a family friend introduced me to the Nintendo, Super Nintendo and Gameboy. Of the first games that I played, the ones that stand out in my mind the most are Secret of Mana and Snake Rattle n' Roll.
Due to the belief of my parents that 'girls shouldn't play games', it was some time before I had my own platforms to play games on. It started with an original Gameboy and then a SNES a year or so after the N64 released. I played more games since then, though somewhat less now that I am studying a double degree in Business and Information Technology at a university in the far north of Australia.
The genre I enjoy the most has always been RPGs (or Role Playing Games for those who don't know). It's closely followed by fighting games, but I tend to buy less of them per system.
As for other interests, I'm also into foreign shows (anime, asian dramas/movies), fantasy novels, foreign music (including anime/video game/Japanese/Chinese/Korean music) and all manners of art and crafts.
This blog will most likely contain my opinions on past and present gaming news in the industry as well as past and present reviews on games themselves. I'm thinking of including experiences I've had that have resulted from being a female gamer as well.
As for the rest, I'm open to any suggestions for content that you all would find interesting.
